The Andaman Islands

Geographical facts:The Magical Andaman Islands are situated in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 450nm west of Phuket. Although belonging to India, the archipelago is actually closer to Thailand than it is to the Indian subcontinent.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands group consists of 572 islands - of which, only 36 are inhabited. Tropical rainforest covers 86% of the land area.
Fishing potential:After several exploration trips to the islands, we are now able to offer intrepid anglers an incredible opportunity to experience what could well be the trip of a lifetime. The fishing action is outstanding mainly due to the virtual absence of commercial fishing vessels.

Anglers can pursue virtually every method of blue water fishing with exceptional results.

Deep water Trolling with lures, livebait or strip baits provides spectacular action with Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado and Wahoo.

The small offshore islands, shoals and reefs offer an excellent opportunity for popper-casting. We experienced spectacular action with GT's best day on "Reel Hooker" resulted in 71 GT's boated. Apart from GT's, Coral Trout, Barracuda, Red Bass and King Mackerel will also readily devour your poppers.

The seamounts and coral heads are also ideal grounds for jigging. Huge Dogtooth Tuna, GT's and awesome Coral Trout will keep anglers busy day or night.

The bottom fishing can only be described as outrageous day or night. The area simply abounds with hungry bottom dwellers and aggressive predators. Massive Groupers, impressive Snappers and numerous species of reef fish will eat virtually anything presented. If anglers are entertained by Shark fishing, they will certainly find plenty of entertainment in the Andamans.

Salt water fly-fishing and inshore lure-casting can also provide outstanding results in the numerous mangrove creeks and estuaries.

Getting There:There are daily flights from Calcutta and Madras into the Island's Capital, Port Blair. Direct flights from Bangkok to Port Blair will be starting shortly. Updates on these flights will appear on this website.

Note: An Indian Visa is required. These can be obtained from Indian Embassies/Consulates/High Commissions worldwide.

The Andaman Islands – Species and Seasons

The fishing seasons in the Andamans roughly coincide with the Phuket seasons. Weather and sea conditions are virtually the same but with one notable exception. The Wahoo fleet vessels have not yet visited the Andaman Islands during the southwest monsoon – April-October. Locals say that during this period, it is possible to fish the East side of the islands in comfort, as the fishing zone waters are sheltered by the mountainous island chain. This may well be the case and year-round fishing could be a possibility – when we have thoroughly researched the logistics.

As for species, virtually every species known to visit or reside in the Andaman Sea can be successfully targeted off the Andaman Islands. Black – and possibly Blue – Marlin, Sailfish, Dogtooth and Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, Barracuda, Wahoo and all the smaller Tuna species can be caught in the undeniably fish-rich waters off the Andamans.

Jigging produces outrageous results with Dogtooth Tuna, Coral Trout and others of the Grouper clan; plus massive GT’s and even Sharks. Popper-casting for GT’s consistently produces outstanding results and bottom fishing is virtually a fish-every-drop experience. Massive Groupers, huge Red Bass as well as assorted Snappers and Job Fish are taken during every session of bottom fishing. Whether you manage to get your fish to the boat without it being taken by one of the multitude of cruising Sharks – is another matter!
