Phuket –Thailand’s jewel of the Andaman – has long been known as one of Asia's tourist hotspots, also has a little known secret. It has been the Sailfish capital of the region for some time!
With an international airport, hotels to suit all tastes, a vibrant and extensive nightlife and restaurants that most big cities would be proud to have - Phuket is the perfect destination to delight all the family, and is also the ideal base for a fishing adventure.
The main fishing grounds surrounding Phuket are:
Racha Yai/ Racha Noi
Situated 18 miles south of Phuket are the Racha Islands. They are very popular for day trip excursions due to their close proximity to Phuket but they produce very rewarding catches. The North East corner of Racha Yai is a notorious Sailfish hot-spot and produces outstanding action. Wahoo, Dorado, Barracuda and multitudes of Skipjack, Kawa Kawa and Longtail Tuna are regularly caught off this island.
Racha Noi and the rocky pinnacles to the south of the island can offer sizzling sport with Black Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo and several other desirable gamefish. It is here where the vast schools of GT’s regularly embark on their feeding sprees more
The Drop Off
The drop-off, on Phuket’s continental shelf offers anglers their best chance of Black Marlin action. The drop-off is also the haunt of Yellowfin Tuna – though rarely trophy size. Big Wahoo often cruise the shelf, as do Barracuda and impressive Dorado. The Skipjacks are generally much bigger than their cousins caught in shallower water. Sailfish do show up occasionally but seldom in great numbers.
Koh Ha
Koh Ha is a group of 5 small islands situated 30 miles South East of Phuket and provides a great day of fishing. Due to the flexibility of our boats it means that we are able to offer Koh Ha as a day trip location whilst most other fishing companies cannot. Well known as a historical Sailfish hotspot, the catches also include Wahoo and Darado.
Similan Islands
The magical Similan Islands are a group of 9 Islands located 60 miles North West of Phuket with some of the most stunning scenery to be found anywhere in South East Asia. The notorious hot-spot, Don Mai Seamount provides action with virtually every species of big game fish known to inhabit the Andaman Sea as well as Manta Rays, Sea Turtles, Whales and Dolphins. Fishing the Similan Islands is truly a once in a lifetime experience and provides anglers with some the best fishing they will ever experience…..well except for maybe our annual Andaman Tour. more
